My Personal Use of Escharotics by Talking With Tina
August 20, 2006
A few months back I learned about something called Compound X or Black Salve or Cansema and a host of other names. The vast majority of these product recipes are derived from the Native Americans and the Bloodroot plant. There are a gazillion places online to find detailed information on these as they claim to be able to remove Moles and Skin Tags as well as Cancer and Tumors. According to much of the information I find, the F.D.A. has a huge issue with this particular natural remedy. It doesn't take long to figure out why! I have supplied a story about a truly incredible healing (one of many available through the Internet) using one of these products and you'll find it on the Cancer page. Here are some pictures of this interesting plant. I think you'll find it easy to understand how it got it's name!
So the reason I'm going into detail about this is because I've had this little freckle...that turned into a bigger freckle...that turned into a mole...that keeps getting bigger and stranger, looking and feeling. I contacted my good friend in South Dakota and she kindly sent me a sample of this "X" to try before buying it. What better place to try it out than on my tattoo mole?! It's grown right on the edge of a beautiful (and very spiritual) tattoo I had done 10 years ago...see?
Day one...before applying "X" Day 2...First application of "X"
Day one "before" of skin-toned Clavicle mole. Day 4 of same mole with "X" treatment.
Day 3 now becoming very tender and developing a whitish halo around edge. Keeping it protected with one bandage and from drying out with a second. I'm not going to give you any recipes or directions as this is a first for me and I'm working with one particular formula. Besides...I would never TELL you to do anything as the choice is always yours, right!? ;) BTW, from what I've been reading, it says that if it's a Cancer there's usually a satellite mole (look just below and slightly right of mine...hmmm).
Day 4 before bathing (mirror reflection)... Day 4 after bathing...
Much more red/tender/swollen. This shower has triggered the "Dead White" halo.
Day 5 before my 6th application of "X". Super close up of arm eschar (L) (pronounced s-Kar') with increasing white halo. Close up of clavicle eschar (R). This one is beginning to separate at the top left (see the slight redness?). The pain is becoming more intense and consistent, but I took 2 Ibuprofen before bed last night and slept right through!
August 22, 8PM
A little voice inside me told me that today was the day to stop "X". So 8 hours after my 6th application on both sites, I carefully rinsed off the "X" and put some well deserved Vitamin E Oil (32,000 I.U.) on the surrounding skin. If you're sensitive to latex, you might want to plan ahead and purchase Band-Aids for Sensitive Skin (latex free). I then applied 2x3" non-stick (but self adhesive) Telfa pads. My plan is to go overnight and see what the next 12 hours brings. I will apply the E oil to both eschars in the morning, so that they don't dry out (less chance of getting ripped away from the skin and better healing). I've read about people putting on Vaseline. I chose not to use a petroleum product.
Days 4 & 5 were by far, the most painful.
August 23, 9PM
I've cleaned both sites with Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) 2 times this day and recovered with fresh Telfa pads. On the 2nd cleaning, I saw that the clavicle site was oozing a thick brownish substance (this is not uncommon). The guess is that the eschar may come off within the next couple of days. As far as the arm goes...it HURTS (but so does surgery). Be aware that Black Salves are NOT Gentle Healers! They are very potent and should be used with extreme care. If you don't know how to use them and have no one that can coach you (as I did), all I can say is DO YOUR HOMEWORK and Don't wing it.
August 25, Day 6
The last two day's the Eschars have been doing a lot of oozing and required much cleaning and covering. There was also a significant amount more pain on the arm and it was very swollen and red! But once the oozing increased, the pain and redness subsided a lot. I want to point out a few things: first, I HIGHLY suggest "Sensitive Skin" coverings for anyone who does this. The removal and reapplication of band aids is (at times) more painful than the eschar! Secondly, remember how the original clavicle mole was so small in appearance. Apparently the "X" found more going on than was visually observed. Finally, the "Black ring of Saturn" (as I've called it) on the arm eschar started as little dark dots, that continually connected. As it dries up an gets harder, I believe the ring may completely connect. Again...we'll see!
Super close up of clavicle eschar, which is coming along very nicely.
Close up of arm eschar. Note the oozing at top & bottom, beginning at the lower right quadrant. It's separating very clearly around the edges. As well as the separating at the top.
Mega close up of arm eschar!

Day 7...Clearly visible is the eschar's complete circular separation.
I'm hoping it will fall off painlessly within the next 48-72 hours.
August 29, Day 10
I have been taking extraordinary care of both Eschar's in regards to keeping them cleaned out with Hydrogen Peroxide and keeping the coverings fresh. The clavicle eschar simply looks like a scab on a scraped knee at this time. I find the arm eschar more interesting. While it is clearly separated around the border, the center has remained attached. This makes me wonder how deeply the root might go. It also makes me realize that simply having a mole burned off (by a Physician), may not do the trick and it may only return. Regarding the probability of scarring. I don't expect it to be any worse than my childhood vaccinations scar.
While it looks raw red, it is not bleeding or painful anymore. You can still see the original Mole as
the dark round spot, dead center of the eschar.. In this side view you can tell that new healthy skin is growing up under the eschar, thus raising it. It will soon fall off. Looks like a hockey puck!
August 30, Day 11...
A B
A) Almost ready to detach. You can see the "roots" of the mole. They look much more stringy in person, but I think you get the idea. The eschar was moving around a lot as I was letting the HP run over it. I was being VERY careful not to detach it myself. It NEEDS to come of by itself. I really believe that it will in the next 12-24 hours.
B) The clavicle eschar has actually loosened on one side. I expect it to come off very soon!
September 1, Day 13...
YIPPEE! Clavicle eschar came off and was already completely healed underneath (see photo below)! This super mega close up shows that the eschar was about 5/16ths of an inch. The photo below is near life-sized. The scar is at the top half of the picture (the more pink circle) That yellowish diagonal line is raw skin (from band aids) reacting to Hydrogen Peroxide. Get yourself some SENSITIVE SKIN coverings!!! When the eschar finally did come off, there was a very deep rooted Spiritual sensation.
Also, remember that a scab is nature's band aid so DO NOT be in any rush to take it off.
Plainly visible is the root of this mole's eschar. It almost looks like an optical nerve attached to an eyeball! I really thought that this would be off by now, but I have come to realize a few things: I am not a Physician...HOWEVER, I do not believe that burning this off would have killed this root. Look at it! It is so deep under the skin. This type of healing is indeed a very Spiritual and contemplative thing. You must have patience and let the Herbs and your Body work their course in harmony...at their own speed and in their own manner. No two will be the same.
Sept. 2, Day 14
11PM...So Happy...the arm eschar has just come off during the before bed cleaning ceremonies! No blood and already the healed skin is growing from the rim towards the center. The shininess in the pictures is from Vitamin E oil, and the red circle that you see at the top veering right towards the bottom is the torn up and sore skin from the band aids and adhesive Telfa pads.

<Near life-sized pic of the underside of eschar.
Slightly enlarged Picture. See what appears to be a hole in the center?>
That was where the last root threads were attached like an umbilical cord to my arm.
< Completely healed after one year. Like I figured, it's no worse than my childhood vaccination scar (which happens to be hidden directly on the bridge of my tattoo's Wolf nose).
